Unlike the naturalization proceedings, there is no binding deadline for the issuance of a certificate of French nationality.
In the most extreme cases, the issuance of such a certificate may take up to six years.
By decision no. 2019 -132 of June 11, 2019, the Defender of Rights has already recommended to the Ministry of Justice to ” préciser par voie de circulaire un délai au-delà duquel il devra être statué sur les demandes de certificats de nationalité française, même en l’absence de retour des procédures de vérification d’état civil diligentées » et de « consolidating and sustaining the staff of the World sub-cluster to ensure the processing of requests within reasonable deadlines”.
This recommendation has still not been implemented.
